San Jose, Calif., September 3, 2024 – Hopkins Carley is pleased to announce that Alma Soongi Beck, Suzanne Farley, Michael Manoukian, Dinah Ximena Ortiz, and Daniel Weinberg have been promoted to shareholders of Hopkins Carley, effective January 1, 2025.

Alma Soongi Beck, previously of counsel, serves as a member of the firm’s Family Wealth & Tax Planning practice group. Her practice focuses on trusts, charitable planning, gift and estate tax planning, and post-death administration including trust administration and probate. Beck also offers consultations and seminars on the legal and tax implications of domestic partnership, marriage, and property co-ownership for same sex and unmarried couples, as well as on the evolution of parentage and gender in estate planning. She also advises and presents on Land Back to Indigenous groups for titleholders, Tribes, and Indigenous organizations. Beck earned her LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University Law School, her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and her bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
Suzanne Farley, previously of counsel, is a member of the firm’s Family Wealth & Tax Planning practice group, based in the San Francisco office. Her practice focuses on family wealth transfers, high-net-worth estate and gift tax planning, counseling Trustees and Executors through complex trust and estate administrations, preparation of estate and gift tax returns, IRS audits of estate and gift tax returns, and business succession planning. Farley earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University Law School, her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, and her B.F.A. from City University of New York.
Michael Manoukian is an employment law attorney who advises, counsels, and represents employers in a wide range of labor and employment law matters involving claims of wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour violations. He has deep experience representing clients in litigation, arbitration, and mediation of single plaintiff cases, class actions, and cases filed pursuant to the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). In addition to employment law matters, Manoukian represents clients in lawsuits involving contract and business disputes. He earned his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, his M.A. from the University of San Francisco, and a bachelor’s degree, from the University of California, Davis.
Dinah Ximena Ortiz, previously of counsel, is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. She mostly represents clients in trade secret, copyright, trademark, and patent matters in a wide range of technologies. In addition to her intellectual property practice, Ortiz focuses on commercial matters involving business torts, unfair competition, partnership disputes, breach of contract, and fraud claims and litigates real estate disputes. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Daniel Weinberg, previously of counsel, is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice in the Redwood Shores office. He is an experienced litigator and adviser, having successfully represented clients in the technology, energy, entertainment, and hospitality industries. Weinberg’s practice primarily involves patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation. He received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, and his A.B., from Dartmouth College.
